
In 1735, the chair of Anatomy was cut out from the expanding field of Surgery. Franz Xaver Mannagetta von Lerchenau received the call and became the first dedicated full Professor of Anatomy. Since then, a large number of highly reputable personalities and some who are controversly discussed due to decisions and deeds, which have to be considered as unethical according to our perspective, followed and shaped the important field of medical research and education.
In 2020 Sophia Bauer published an interactive Website, which provides a timeline and prosopographical information of all heads of the Viennese Anatomy.
