Elisa studied Genomic Biotechnologies at the Sapienza University in Rome, graduating with a master thesis on microRNA expression in the nervous system. During her PhD in Neurosciences she studied the regulation of the Amyloid Precursor Protein by microRNA. As postdoc, she contributed crucial papers about the identification and characterization of the tRNA methyltransferase activity of the human mitochondrial RNase P, and its involvement in human disease. After gaining independence as an Elise-Richter fellow of the Austrian Science Fund, she leads her own research group at the Medical University of Vienna since 2019, focusing on RNA modification in cellular homeostasis, development, and disease.

Tom is a graduate of the University of Amsterdam, where he studied Molecular Neurosciences. During his master internships he studied the mechanism of intrinsic activation of USP1 at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, and the development of quantitative methods for pseudouridine detection in ribosomal RNA in the lab of Henrik Nielsen at the University of Copenhagen. As a PhD student in the group of Elisa Vilardo, he is studying the modulation of tRNA expression and modification during development.
